About the event

Pleco Invasive Removal LLC is hosting a volunteer-supported invasive pleco removal effort at the Alafia River.

Invasive armored catfish (plecos), often called “sailfin catfish,” are spreading throughout Florida waterways. Their burrowing behavior can contribute to shoreline erosion and habitat disruption in freshwater systems.

This operation is uniquely supported by kayaks and paddle boards, allowing our team to quietly access shallow canal edges and riverbanks where plecos are most active.

Whether you are an experienced paddler or want to assist from shore, your involvement helps protect Florida’s native ecosystems.
